What content will you address in this course?
- Analysis of short academic and medical texts in English, including abstracts from original articles.
- Identification of paratextual elements.
- Acquisition of reading and comprehension strategies.
- Introduction to textual genres, particularly scientific journals, and various textual typologies such as comments, perspectives, reviews, and abstracts of original articles.
- Introduction to General Academic Vocabulary (GAV) and Specific Discipline Vocabulary (SDV).
- Introduction to functional linguistic elements for reading and comprehension of academic texts. This content that represents and elementary level of English, becomes more complex as levels progress.
- Presentation of textual cohesion and coherence elements in English.
- Writing, in Spanish, brief reviews in the form of abstracts that introduce descriptions of the theme, objectives, and main conclusions of the covered text. Use of GAV and elements of textual coherence and cohesion in Spanish.
