Field of Medical Practice
Reading Comprehension and Academic Writing in English in Medical Practice Settings
This course provides skills for text-based analysis of original articles found in renowned scientific journals. The reading activity focuses on the strategic selection of the central content of the text by identifying relevant linguistic elements and academic vocabulary in English. This work is accompanied by a gradual writing process that culminates in creating an abstract or a brief academic summary of the article in English.
This course consists of three consecutive levels, each lasting 8 weeks. The levels can be completed consecutively or specifically selected since each addresses specific objectives.
Field of Nursing
Reading Comprehension in English in Nursing Practice Settings
This course focuses on the analysis of opinion articles, chapters from specialized academic books, and reviews of scientific articles by identifying linguistic elements and relevant academic vocabulary in English. This approach facilitates the selection of central concepts from academic texts within a framework of strategic and interpretative reading. The course also includes a progressive academic writing process, culminating in the production of a concise review in Spanish.
The course extends over an 8-week period.
Health Sciences
Oral Presentations in English
This course enhances skills for orally presenting academic content in English. Initially, it enables the development of a coherent and concise written presentation by selecting key ideas from a scientific article and using academic vocabulary in English. Gradually, this process evolves into creating a textual image (PPT) that promotes enriched oral expression and practice, facilitated by an appropriate academic lexicon in English.
Participants are expected to have at least a minimum pre-intermediate level of English proficiency to enroll in this course. This program spans a total of 8 weeks.
Health Sciences
Conversational English
This course provides an environment for communication in English that encourages fluency and confidence. Within a relaxed working context, various topics are addressed, and experiences from everyday life and professional settings are shared. Participants will acquire useful vocabulary and appropriate expressions for their professional activities.
A Little More About Me
I am a project specialist and university English professor who graduated from Mar del Plata National University (UNMDP) in 1998. Throughout my professional career, I have undertaken various training courses in foreign languages, and delivered at national and international conferences. Since 2006, I have especially focused on designing academic projects with specific and professional purposes. Consequently, my academic education took a clear and defined direction, participating in seminars, courses, and specializations at universities such as FLACSO, where I specialized in Social Sciences, Reading-comprehension, Writing, and Education, UCES, and UBA where I have been trained in Reading Comprehension in a Foreign Language by professors such as Ana Delmas and Estela Klett. I worked for 15 years at the Social Sciences Department at UBA focusing on reading comprehension abilities. Currently, I’m working on reading comprehension, academic writing, and speaking in English in the fields of health and higher education at Fundación Sanatorio Güemes, Nursing School at UNSO, “Dr. Joaquín V. González” Teaching Higher Education Institute, and “Alicia Moreau De Justo” Teaching Higher Education Institute.
