What content will you address in this course?
- Reading and comprehension of scientific and medical articles in English.
- Recognition of textual genres: Journals; and textual typologies: Research Reports (original articles) and Reviews.
- Application of reading and textual comprehension strategies.
- Identification of the narrative organization of an original research article.
- Recognition and incorporation of General Academic Vocabulary (GAV) and Specific Discipline Vocabulary (SDV).
- Recognition and application of relevant linguistic clues to build up a written text. Elements of cohesion and coherence in English texts. This linguistic analysis becomes more complex as levels progress; therefore, this course will embody an intermediate level of English.
- Writing abstracts that describe the original article by considering a logical and rhetorical narrative sequence in English, and focusing on the core ideas present in the article and its GAV. Use of elements of coherence and cohesion in English texts.
