What content will you address in this course?
- Approach to scientific and medical articles in English.
- Identification of paratextual elements.
- Recognition of textual genres: Journals; and textual typologies: Research Reports (original articles) and Reviews.
- Acquisition of reading and textual comprehension strategies.
- Introduction to the narrative organization of an original research article. Integration of General Academic Vocabulary (GAV) and Specific Discipline Vocabulary (SDV).
- Identification of functional linguistic elements for reading and comprehension of academic texts. This linguistic analysis becomes more complex as levels progress; therefore, this course will embody an elementary/preintermediate level of English.
- Recognition of cohesion and coherence elements in English texts.
- Writing, in English, brief statements that portray the central content of an original article and its GAV. These short descriptions will involve the consideration of the rhetorical moves and the elements of coherence and cohesion.
